My life began in Holland. Our family immigrated to New Zealand in the early 1960s settling first in Central Otago, where a great love for the area was born. A business opportunity took us to Oamaru in North Otago. It is here that I grew up, married and raised my children.
Over the past 25 years, in partnership with my husband John, I have successfully, owned and operated three Health stores (not all at the same time!)
In 2013, I lost my best friend, I was widowed. The loss of my husband, at a relatively young age, has been the catalyst to follow my dream of becoming a celebrant, for both weddings and funerals.
A modern outlook on life, a sense of humour and life experience are some of the qualities I bring to my work. Accepting difference and diversity, I have respect for race, culture, spirituality and individual beliefs. At school, being very un-coordinated when it came to sport, I was encouraged to do public speaking, (thank you Sister Maria!) I believe I am natural, articulate and confident.
I hold a Certificate of Celebrant Studies and am a member of the Celebrants’ Association of New Zealand (CANZ).
I have three, wonderfully supportive, married children, who between them have given me six beautiful grandchildren. I treasure the special times spent with my family.
I still maintain a strong interest in natural health and for relaxation I enjoy reading, gardening, yoga and walking. I especially love coffee with a friend at the end of the walk!
Many events in my life have led me to this celebrant work.
Many of life’s milestones deserve and become more meaningful, with a ceremony. To share in the most significant times of people’s lives is an absolute privilege. I look forward to working with you in the future.
